At just 15 years old, Derek carries a heart full of courage and a spirit that shines with resilience. He’s been part of the Children Home Rivero Atkinson for nearly five years, and during that time, he’s become a young man we deeply admire. As the oldest of his siblings, Derek has naturally stepped into a role of leadership.

Derek is a social butterfly. He thrives in community, and his conversations are full of life. He can talk for hours about cars—his favorite subject—. Music is another of his passions; it uplifts him and gives him a way to express what words sometimes can’t.
When we first came to Rivero Atkinson, he joined the basketball team, eager to connect and compete. But not long after, he found a deeper connection with baseball. Something about the rhythm of the game, the focus it requires, and the team spirit drew him in. Baseball has since become his passion—his outlet and his drive.

One of the most powerful things about Derek is his awareness. He understands his story and the challenges he has faced, but he doesn’t let them define him. He doesn’t carry bitterness—he carries purpose. His journey hasn’t been easy, but he walks it with dignity, maturity, and a heart full of faith.

We know that nurturing a child goes beyond shelter and meals. That’s why we’ve also committed to supporting Derek in his education. He currently studies at a private school, where he’s excelling. This opportunity is not just about academics—it’s about showing Derek he is worth the investment, that his future matters.
We believe every child has a God-given purpose. And in today’s world—where so many young people feel lost or unseen—it’s more important than ever to walk beside them. We are called not just to care for children, but to champion them, to speak life into their potential, and to believe in their God-authored future.
Derek is one of many stories we could share. But his reminds us why we do what we do. He’s a symbol of what happens when love meets opportunity, when faith becomes action, and when we choose to believe in the next generation.

Let’s keep showing up. Let’s keep planting seeds. Because in kids like Derek, we see the promise of God’s goodness—alive, growing, and ready to bless the world.
