Mother’s Day is a beautiful time for many—but for children in a home like Casa Hogar M. Rivero Atkinson, it can also be a tender, complicated day.

For some of our kids, the word “mom” brings up pain, confusion, or memories that are hard to hold. In the past, we kept our Mother’s Day celebrations within our four walls—quiet, gentle moments meant to protect tender hearts. But through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we came to see something deeper: healing doesn’t come from silence or hiding pain—it comes from love in action. This year, with the support of our school team, we felt God calling us to do something bigger, to step outside our comfort zone and bring His light to others.

So instead of ignoring Mother's Day, we decided to transform it.This year, we chose to celebrate differently—not by focusing on what we don’t have, but by giving from what we do.

With the kids, we talked about how even in the hardest moments, God can use us to bring hope to others. That just like Jesus didn’t wait to be served but went out to serve, we too could do something beautiful for someone else. And with that idea... something special was born.

We made Mother’s Day cards, full of love, bright colors, and heartfelt words written by the kids. Then, with big smiles and brave hearts, we went out into the city to do something simple but profound:We sang. We gave hugs. We handed out cards. We gave a serenade to the mothers of our community.

Some of these moms were tired, some were worried, some were walking through their own struggles—but when they saw the children, something shifted. Faces softened. Eyes welled up with tears. There was laughter, singing, and a lot of joy in the air.

We weren’t just handing out paper cards. We were planting seeds of hope.

And for our children—this was healing. They discovered that even if their story has been marked by loss, they are not powerless. They can love. They can give. They can be part of something bigger than the pain. They have something to offer.

It reminded us of one of God’s greatest truths:

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” — Acts 20:35

We saw that come to life this Mother’s Day.

So, while it may have started as a day we weren’t sure how to face, it turned into a celebration of hope, purpose, and healing—not just for the moms we serenaded, but for every child who realized they are a vessel of God's love.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible.

Thank you, Lord, for using little hands and open hearts to make a difference.

Let’s keep choosing love,
